AMTA at  WMTS in Latvia, July 2023

Enjoying the reception for WMTS Latvia (L to R) Kris Vadlamudi, Emmie Ko, Kay Coghlan, & John Curnes.
Scott Shepherd (in the hat) and Chris Fowler took the silver in 55+ doubles. The winning team is from Latvia.

We had a small number of AMTA members show up for the World Medical Tennis Society meeting in Jurmala, Latvia in July.  Jurmala is a resort community close to the capital of Latvia, which is in Riga.  Riga is only 250 miles from St Petersburg, but we felt safe and welcomed by the hospitality of the Latvians.  The facilities and tournament were well run and accommodated a few days of rain by playing indoors in the National facility when rain would not allow the clay courts to be used.  Jalena Ostapenko, current WTA world #13 from Latvia, works out there.

Our numbers were small, but we did well and enjoyed tennis and meeting old friends.

John Curnes:  Bronze MD 65

Jim & Kay Coghlan:  Silver MXD 65

Randy Eckert:  Consolation Gold MD65 (Jim Coghlan)

Gabe Fornari:  Bronze MS 50,  Bronze MD 50

Chris Fowler:  Silver MS 55,  Silver MD 55 (Scott Shepherd)

Emmie Ko:  Bronze MXD 55 (Chris Fowler), Bronze WD 55 (Kay Coghlan)

Scott Shepherd:  Gold MS 65, Silver MD 55 (Chris Fowler)

Kris Vadlamudi:  Consolation Silver MS 80

We had a Men’s Nations Cup team (Scott Shepherd, Chris Fowler, and Gabe Fornari.). They won their first match against Estonia but lost in the next round to host Latvia.

3rd picture: Gabe Fornari, MD (with the hat) won his Nation’s Cup match with his Estonian opponent.
