INVITATION
Dear Friends, Congress Participants, and Guests,
The American Medical Tennis Association (AMTA), founded in 1968 is very pleased to host the 37th Annual Congress and Championship of the World Medical Tennis Society (WMTS) in conjunction with ICAPPS in San Diego, California, September 8-15, 2007. The WMTS Congress was held in San Diego in 1985 and many have requested a return visit to this fair city.
We feel San Diego is ideal for our meeting. Not only is the weather dependable and mild, but the venues are either on or very near the water. Places of interest, restaurants, and shops abound in this coastal city.
However, the real advantage of the San Diego location is the expansive Barnes Tennis and Meeting Center (BTMC). Built in 1996 with 25 courts, it will allow ICAPPS to hold scientific meetings and you to play all of your matches at one location. BTMC has great viewing for spectators, especially the Center Court. ICAPPS scientific session will be conveniently held each day in the conference room at BTMC with three hour afternoon session on Sunday. Monday thru Friday there will be three hour morning sessions as well as two hour afternoon sessions.
For your accommodations, our executive director, Betty Olsen, and staff have contracted with 3 hotels and set up special group prices. The hotels are 2 or 3 miles from BTMC, 10-15 minutes from the San Diego International Airport, and will be linked by bus to all venues.
The official hotel of the Congress is the San Diego Hilton, located in one of the most beautiful areas of San Diego. The Congress registration will take place there on Saturday, September 8, 2007. The Awards Ceremony will be there as well when our festivities end on Friday evening, September 14, 2007.
One of our members, Dr. Homer Peabody, was the visionary who was instrumental in the building of the Barnes Tennis and Meeting Center. Opening ceremonies and a short tribute to Dr. Peabody will be held at BTMC Saturday, September 8. A reception with heavy hors d’oeuvres will follow.
Please take advantage of the many listed tours offered to you. They include Seaworld, Wild Animal Park, Balboa Park, the aircraft carrier Midway, San Diego Zoo, sailing on San Diego Bay, shopping in La Jolla, and many others.
Our executive director and her staff have put together a very ambitious and entertaining social program for your pleasure. We are looking forward to meeting with you, sharing some stories over dinner, and pounding a few ground-strokes in San Diego, California in 2007.
