GENERAL INFORMATION

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA
San Diego lies in the southwest corner of California, 120 miles (193 km) south of the city of Los Angeles and 20 miles (32 km) north of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. Elevation ranges from sea level to 1,591 feet in the city, to 6,500 feet in the county. San Diego boasts a citywide population of nearly 1.3 million residents. Popular attractions include the world-famous San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park, Sea World San Diego and LEGOLAND California.

PASSPORT AND ENTRY VISA
It is advisable that you check about visa and entry requirements before making your travel arrangements to San Diego. Details can be obtained from the US State Department website.

INSURANCE
The Congress Committee will not be responsible for losses, damages, health injuries and problems, damage to personal property, or other contingencies, which may afflict the participants during their journey or their stay in San Diego. Therefore, we recommend you to arrange for yourselves personal and travel insurance for your journey and stay in San Diego, which would eliminate possible consequences of such unpleasant occurrences.

CLIMATE
San Diego enjoys beautiful weather year round with an average daily temperature of 70.5º (21.4 degrees Celsius). A marked feature of the climate is the wide variation in temperature within short distances due to the topography of the land. You can enjoy coastal, mountain and desert environments all in the space of one day.

LANGUAGE
English is the official language of the Congress.

TIPPING
Tips are never included in the price, and although not obligatory, it is considered well mannered and courteous to include 15% tips on the total amount, less tax.

CREDIT CARDS
Most hotels and restaurants, as well as many shops accept American Express, Carte Blanche, Diners Club International, Mastercard and Visa.

ELECTRICITY
Electricity supply is 110 volts.

COMMUNICATIONS
Overseas calls may be made from any hotel. For emails and internet, there are also various internet cafes available in town, and available in the hotels. Most mobile phones will work in California.

HISTORY
San Diego is the birth place of California. Portuguese explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo landed in what is now San Diego Bay and claimed the area for Spain on September 28, 1542
