409 participated in the 34th WMTS Congress in Austria including 132 spouses and 16 children. AMTA had 23 participate.

AMTA congregated in Munich and then traveled by bus to Kitzbuhl for a 3 day stay. We played tennis, walked the quaint village and toured 1 day in Salzburg. What a beautiful view of the alps from the gondola in Kitzbuhl!

We then traveled by bus to Portschach by way of gorgeous scenery through the alps. It poured rain for the opening ceremonies, but Austria had erected a huge white tent next to the courts that served as headquarters, and the ceremonies were moved indoors. Sunday the tournament started with bright sunshine and play began promptly at 8:30am.

We have several champions in our ranks: Craig Broome captured 1st place in M55 Singles on his first WMTS meeting! Paul Young defended his title of M70 Singles defeating Bud Foran in the finals. We couldn't lose that one! Then they teamed up again and defended their title of M70 doubles. Mimi Combs & Carole Foran teamed up to win the W70 doubles. Congratulations all!!

In addition, we have another celebrity in our midst. Jim Manion from Omaha was inaugrated as the new Executive Director of WMTS. The best is yet to come.

Austria planned a boat trip for everyone across the lake with dinner at the Casino and a little gambling for those so inclined. At the banquet dinner, a great deal of toasting went on as we renewed old friendships and made many new friends. A wonderful time was had by all.
