August 10-17, 2002
37 participants from the U.S., (including 2 lucky children) attended the supurb WMTS meeting in Karlovy
Vary, Czech Republic, August 10-17, 2002. Total participation was 434 from 21 countries. The Pupp
Hotel (built in 1700) - that is not a typo - was our headquarters. The ballroom where the Friday night
banquet was held looked like the ballroom from "My Fair Lady" movie. With a 3-day visit to Prague before
the tournament, our U.S. group learned about rubies, porcelain, and a lot of Czech history. We also had
some success on the tennis court.
1. Paul Young - Winner Mens 70S
2. Paul Young-Bud Foran - Winner Mens 70D
3. Steve Madjedi - Winner 75+S
4. Betty Olsen - Winner W60SCon
Take a look at the slideshow from the event.
To sum up the USA trip to Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic, here is a ditty written by Gloria Burnam on
the bumpy bus ride from Karlovy Vary to Prague, Aug. 17, 2002
"WORLD MEDICAL TENNIS SOCIETY"/???
Our friends would scoff with glee,
And say "you're joking!" We'd persist -
Convincing them it does exist.
"Tennis and medicine" is the name of our game.
We practice and LOVE them both just the same.
We're not high STRUNG - we relax with ease.
We really are SWINGERS - so don't laugh, please.
To dispense expertise on AND off the court!
In both fields, the docs have a FIRM GRIP,
And to Karlovy Vary, we've had a VARY good trip!
